You can’t wear white after Labor Day.
I said, you can’t wear white after Labor Day.
You aren’t listening.
Ok, now lets really focus, ok? No white after-
Hey, Missy! I mean you in the head wrap- I am trying teach etiquette and class here- now go change into something appropriate!
Ok, Sassy sleeves Armani- just settle down. We have rules here. I demand that you leave and take your seasonally inappropriate bichon with you!!!
Aargh. Let’s try again. I repeat. No white after Labor Day!!!
People! I am trying to remind all of us of the importance of following fashion rules! If we didn’t have rules, our society would just collapse into jumpsuit wearing mayhem. Now go and move your white garments to the off-season storage as God intended!!!!
E Tu Altuzarra?????
Donatella, you are not helping. I’m going to need you to go sit down. In the back.

The world has gone mad….rules are meant to keep us all in line and save us from laborious washing of white clothes as fall arrives…we need more time to gather nuts and store them and send the kiddies off to school and get down to some serious sewing. It is a battle!

I am a fan of the “no white after Labor Day” rule but then I don’t wear white often anyway. In my world white clothing invites disasters involving copious quantities of barbeque sauce or blueberry pie filling.

I had no white shoes to put away either! I just enjoyed seeing so many wonderful rule breakers!

I never wear white because I always slop something on it. And that First Lady… What’s wrong with the “boob” area on her dress?

I’ve never heard of this rule before but then I’m from the ‘colonies’. Our land was built on convicts…and they wear white don’t they? (yes, I DID hear my place of birth being called ‘the colonies’ in all seriousness only a few years ago) Basically, I’m stuffed then. My whole wardrobe is filled with white right now…

I never paid much attention to it until I moved to the american south- they LIVE their rules!!!

“No white after Labor Day” always reminds me of this short scene between Kathleen Turner and Patty Hearst from the 1994 movie “Serial Mom”.
[Juror #8 (Patty Hearst) is talking on a payphone, when Beverly (Kathleen Turner) comes up behind her and grabs the phone from her]
Beverly: You can’t wear white after Labor Day!
Juror #8: That’s not true anymore.
Beverly: Yes it is! Didn’t your mother tell you? Now you know.
[She whacks her in the face with the phone]
Juror #8: No! Please! Fashion has changed!
Beverly: No… it hasn’t.
[She hits her again]

Imagine I have been misinformed all these years. I thought it was white shoes! I mean I know as a kid I had a winter white wool coat once (say that 3 times fast). My granny made it for me, totally impractical but it was very pretty, ladylike and warm. I think it lasted a week……

I think lots of those designs are drop-dead gorgeous, but you’re absolutely right, white is not the right color for autumn. Unless you live in Florida and autumn is warm and sunny.
